Mac’s Oyster Ltd founder Joseph McLellan pioneered the modern day shellfish farming, known as aquaculture, in British Columbia. Always a lover of oysters, Joe saw the potential of this shellfish not only as a tasty healthy dish, but as the basis for a farming business. He started his business in Fanny Bay on the shores of Baynes Sound, Vancouver Island in the 20th century. All of Mac’s farming areas are regularly monitored for both water quality, animal and human health by government agencies, and by a third party lab.
